King County Energize Program

home upgrades made affordable

King County Energize, Explained

King County’s Energize program is not a traditional rebate or tax credit. It is a grant-funded program designed to fully or partially cover the cost of installing heat pumps and other qualifying energy-efficiency upgrades for income-eligible households in specific areas of South King County. For households that qualify, Energize can dramatically reduce (or in some cases eliminate) out-of-pocket costs for installing a new heat pump system.

Unlike utility rebates:

  • Energize funding is not claimed after the fact.

  • Eligible installations may be fully covered or partially covered by grant funds.

  • Eligibility is based on income and geographic location.

The program is focused on expanding access to efficient heating and cooling in frontline and underserved communities. Hansen Home Services participates as a professional installer (under the trade name AC Electric Service) and helps eligible homeowners understand the program, installation requirements, and next steps.

Who is Energize For?

The Energize program is designed for homeowners and renters who:

  • Live in South King County communities.

  • Meet household income eligibility requirements.

  • Own or rent a single-family home within the program’s service area.

Eligible service areas include parts of Federal Way, Auburn, Kent, Renton, Des Moines, SeaTac, Burien, and Tukwila. Eligibility is determined using an address-based service area map provided by King County.

Do I Qualify for the Energize Program?

Eligibility for Energize depends on both income and location. At a high level, you may qualify if:

  • Your home is located in the Energize service area.

  • Your household income falls within program limits.

  • The home is a qualifying single-family residence.

Income guidelines:

Households may qualify for full-cost coverage or partial-cost coverage depending on household size and total combined income for all adults living in the home. Because eligibility rules are specific, most homeowners choose to confirm qualification directly with the Energize program.

What Upgrades Does Energize Cover?

Energize focuses primarily on heat pump installations, which provide both heating and cooling. Depending on the program phase and funding availability, covered upgrades may include air-source heat pump systems and related electrical or efficiency improvements needed to support the installation. Program scope and availability may change over time based on funding.
